Factory original – this doll is as brightly coloured and virtually in the exact condition as the day it was made. I would say rarely if ever played with. This is unusual as this is an unusual plaything…
The bisque head incised with only 11/0, has a flanged neck with fixed blue glass eyes, feathered brows, painted lips and four upper teeth to the open mouth. It even has its original short, tightly curled, blonde mohair wig.
The body has a wooden and wire superstructure with a bellow to the torso, which when squeezed sets the carved wooden lower arms clapping away. The lower arms are rather cleverly and almost crudely carved with shoes and painted yellow stocking finish with black ankle boots.
This little charmer wears his original Jester type costume which consists of a multicolored ensemble of the lightest weight fabric in hues of red, cerise and green. The long sleeve bodice has a central red panel with a cerise panel to each side, separated by s strip of metallic braid edged with fine cotton lace. One sleeve is green and the other is cerise finished with braid and to sleeve edge sits a decorative lace cuff. The 3/4 pants have one green fabric leg, the other cerise, both with lace to the hem. An ‘overskirt’ sits over the top of the pants with matching, alternating colour panels which are also finished with metallic braid and lace. To complete the costume, a cap sits atop his head in matching cerise fabric with a green cord ending with pom , adding the finishing touch!
A fantastic find in great condition.
Measures approximately 13” in height, not including the cap on his head.
