Suitable for a large bebe or display piece, this child's sac du voyage circa 1870s/1880s is in very good original condition.
The upper purse section has brass fitments with working latch and lock which can be locked with the original key included. It opens to reveal leather interior with a central, hinged section and further two compartments to each side. The handle is of hand woven leather and the exterior of the purse is hand worked tapestry of a geometric design. The needlepoint to the reverse shows more wear than the front. The sides are of black leather.
The lower section has brass stud and banded decoration with a brass lock in working order and brass escutcheon. All can be fully locked with the same key used to lock the top section. The inside is lined with original blue floral paper lining. The base shows signs of some type of original paper labelling.
This darling little French porte measures approximately 10 ¾" wide x .11" high x 7 ½" deep.
