Lucy Kemp-Welch 'Forest Ponies' study in lead pencil print 1895.
A delightful and typically accomplished study in lead pencil of New Forest Ponies by the highly regarded British artist and illustrator Lucy Kemp-Welch (1869-1958).
Kemp-Welch studied at Hubert Von Herkomers art school becoming one of his best and most favoured students. Eventually setting up her own studio she later directed the Herkomer school from 1905 -1926. Although specializing in pictures of working horses she also painted other animals, flowers and landscapes, also noted for her illustrations to the 1915 edition of Black Beauty. (Wikipedia).
