Staffordshire figures in Gondola 'Astleys Circus' circa 1850.
A colourful group of three theatrical figures riding in a Gondola. Made in Staffordshire, England, circa 1850 these figures reference Astleys circus, a hugely popular entertainment in London in the first half of the nineteenth century. A scarce and sought after figure.
Size: Base 6. 3/4" wide x 2. 1/2" deep, height = 9. 3/8", widest dimension = 8. 1/4" - Weight - 780 g or 1 .3/4 lbs - all measurements approximate.
Condition: Very good - the black dot in the bottom of the base at the front (see photo 3) is a tiny old chip and there is some slight crazing and areas of paint loss (Note the white dots in the coloured banding on the Gondola are part of the decoration and NOT areas of loss). Please see all photographs and as ever I am happy to send more and answer any questions you may have.
