Staffordshire Swan Inkwell Pair circa 1860.
A very good pair of rather elegant Staffordshire pottery inkwells in the form of swans, dating to circa 1860. Each features the bird sitting on a bed of green painted shredded clay to simulate foliage and have puce decorated wings with gilt highlights, also a gilt line to the base. A nice addition for the collector of inkwells or those of Staffordshire animals or figures and one of the scarcer animal inkwells to be found.
Size: 2. 3/4" wide x 3. 3/8" tall x 1. 7/8" deep at the base. Weight: 10.7 oz or 305 g. (combined) All measures approximate. Condition: Very good - one has firing cracks around one of the quill holes, there is a fine overall crazing and the usual minor firing imperfections expected with this type of pottery. No sign of any chips, other cracks or restoration. Please see all photographs and as ever I am happy to send more and answer any questions you may have. Will be sent well packed.
