Sunderland Lustre Pottery Plaque 'Praise Ye The Lord'
A very good Sunderland orange lustre moulded pottery plaque with the familiar religious motif "Praise ye the Lord". Decorated with an orange 'splash' border and a monochrome print over painted with washes of colour, and has the angel facing to the right. Although it utilises an early version of the print complete with spelling mistake ("the" instead of "thee") in the quotation from the psalm below the angel, this type of more heavily potted orange plaque dates to circa 1860 and is thought to be by the Scott of Southwick Pottery.
Size: 8. 3/4" wide x 8" top to bottom x 1. 3/8" deep. Weight 22 oz or 630 g. (all measures approximate). Condition: Very good - very small old chip to top fight hand back corner (not visible from front) and a small firing crack to reverse. Overall fine crazing and normal firing imperfections to be expected with this type of pottery. Of good colour, for some reason this type of orange lustre often appears a bit washed out and this example still retains good overall colour (Please note white areas on photographs are from camera flash). Please see all photographs and as ever I am happy to send more and answer any questions you may have.
