Old Fashioned verses and sketches by Sophia Rosamond Praeger, a signed copy of the first (only ?) edition printed in 1947 by W. Tempest at the Dundalgan Press in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland.
Rosamond Praeger (1867 - 1954) was a writer and illustrator of children's books but is perhaps best known for her sculpture in particular 'The Philosopher' (see photo 5) exhibited at The Royal Academy and now in Colorado Springs, Colorado. To quote from the dust jacket of the book " Her charming little figure The Philosopher finds a place in many a home. She is specially sensitive and successful in her portrayal of children. These poems prove how sure is her touch and how sympathetic her understanding of both of old and young, of human kind and of County Down where she has liver most of her life. The pencil, crayon and wash drawings have been chosen by the publisher from a rough sketch book."
This volume comes complete with 3 tipped in plates and numerous illustrations. It is also signed by the author and can be regarded as very scarce in this state, I have been unable to trace any other signed copy for sale
Size: 9" tall x 5.3/4" wide x 1/2" thick. Pages of print = 63 Wt. = 295g approx. Condition: Book = very good, presentation inscription and small book plate with name on front free end paper, contents clean and tightly bound. Dust Jacket: price clipped with various small tears to top and bottom, it is actually slightly bigger than the book which I think accounts for these. Being cream in colour there are also various obvious marks. Bearing these points in mind I think it would be very difficult to find a dust jacket in pristine condition for what is already a scarce volume. Please see all photographs and as ever I am happy to send more if required.
Please Note - this book has become slightly must whilst in storage.
