This Japanese vintage geisha style porcelain moriage tea jar dates to about the 1920s Taisho or early Showa period. It is a handmade piece in a nice shape with handles and a lid, of nice Kutani porcelain. It is heavily decorated in hand painted over glaze enamels and moriage as a tea jar. It is decorated with a Japanese woman against a muted and creative landscape of Japan including cherry blossoms. It is made as a tea jar and would make a lovely dresser top or decorative piece for the antique or Geisha porcelain lover. Polychrome hand bordered and painted all over, lovely border. Very European design, clearly made for export, a lovely fine piece.
Geisha girl porcelain is very popular in the Western countries. It may be Yokohama ware. In excellent condition with no cracks or chips, some minor age and staining from use on inside and bottom edge.
