A Japanese antique of rare porcelain tureen by maker Hichozan Shinpo sei 肥碟山信甫製. Hichozan Shinpo-sei is high quality ware from the 1800's and one of the finer quality types of old Imari. It was made between the Edo and Meji period between the 1860-1880s. A Japanese sauce tureen is handmade and finely painted with great detail in heavy overglaze enamels. There are three different very detailed scenic panels bordered in scrolling designs and arabesque patterns all over. The panels are decorated with the 'Sansui' design which is a scenery of mountain & water, a landscape or a seascape, a castle and birds and flowers, it is very fine and each painting is unique. The pointed leaves around the bottom are the old Imari design of 'renben'. It is signed with the mark Hichozan Shinpo sei 肥碟山信甫製 This piece is in excellent condition for its age. There are minimal signs of wear if any, and no damage. The foot is not chipped it was cropped in the picture and I did not realize it. This piece was well cared for. There are no cracks or chips, thereare a few age flea bites and some minor wear to the bottom.
