An Antique Japanese tea cup of horse riders by Maruyama Toki Yamashiro Ryuhei. A decorative or small tea or sake cup, possibly. A porcelain 'made for export' piece of great character with a well-known motif by this artist for horse riding and racing . It is a tea cup with wonderfully detailed and hand painted figures all around, made by this well known and very busy Japanese ceramicist artist and his studios, Maruyama Toki Yamashiro Ryuhei, for import. It is thin and delicate, dating to between the 1920s and 1950s. This is a purchase from the estate of a WWII vet through a dealer in Indianapolis, Indiana.

SIZE: Height: 3" or 7.62 cm Width: 3 1/2" or 8.89 cm

The works of Maruyama Toki Yamashiro Ryuhei were mostly of Seto ware in the Aichi province of Japan. He was well known for his made for export figurine art porcelains of people, characters and animals; many listed between years of 1920-30s , and some stamped on up through the Made in Occupied Japan" the well-known historical period after WWII. Many of his figurines are definitely of the 50's styles, and while I bought this an antique I have noticed that everyone has theirs listed as being made between 1920-1930's. I have seen them for sell in US, UK, Italy, all over the world and for as much as $200. I am listing as Vintage, but could be older.
