Japanese Vintage Kiyomuzu-yaki Kyoto Ware Pottery of a Suiban is a water basin made to prepare the flowers for an Ikebana or Flower Arrangement. It is therefore a key element in the ritual of the tea ceremony. A Suiban is used for to cut and clean the flower and foliage for the flower arrangement. A creative and beautiful handmade piece with ancient Japanese wooden wheels molded on the body, which resemble flowers. It is a beautiful shade of blue. This was made about 30-40 years ago. It is in excellent handmade vintage condition with no cracks or chips. I do not the potter, but is Kyoto ware. I never thought that when my mother was taking flower arranging classes in Japan, I would be sitting here writing about it 45 years later.
