This Japanese Antique Edo Period Lacquered Samurai Jingasa Military Hat is 200 years old dating to the 18th century Edo period.
Jingasa means war hat 陣笠, It was made when the Samurai were still in power and were orn during wars. Styles of hats were assigned by rank. This is a very historical piece made by a specialist. Most likely, it was made of very thin wood or thick layers of silk enclosed by paper mache and is molded in the shape of a flattened cone. It is lacquered in black. Besides the very few dings on the inside of the hat and the expected wear on the outside, the hat and lacquer are in very good condition. The inside is worn as most of them are, but this one very lightly for its age. Please take this opportunity to own a very historical piece of old Japan. It is a wonderful collector's item and decorative piece.
