Chinese vintage tsuishu lacquered arabesque art case is made of sculptured Guri. Itr has a simple arabesque design of connected flowers and leaves. It looks exactly like wood. It is a gorgeous carved piece and about 40-50 years old. It is lacquered with urushi lacquer the same as what is most often used in Japan. This is called tsuishu qwhich is the name for this type lacquerware and just one of many types. It does look very much like the wood boxes that are so popular. It is red lacquer on the outside and a nice black on the inside. If resin, it will be sturdy for a long time. Resin can make very nice and attractive pieces. This one is made very well, as a square kogo box. It is the same as used in Japan as a kogo box. A kogo is used for holding incense and historically most often for the tea ceremony, at the temple, and for the small worship area in the home. The kogo are also wonderful items of character to decorate with, in addition to placing small items in around the house.
In very good condition, no cracks or chips. It has a little dirt between the cracks of age and use and stain or discoloration in one spot. Please see the pictures and ask any questions.
