This is a Japanese antique lacquered Samurai jingasa or Jangasa war hat which was made during the early Edo period of 1800-1868.. Jingasa means war hat 陣笠, It was made when the Samurai were still in power and worn by foot soldiers during wars. It is a very historical piece made by a specialist. Most likely, it was made of very thin wood and is moulded in the shape of a wide cone. One can see what appears to be a staple in the searm. It is lacquered and besides the dings on the inside of the hat and the very few on the outside, the lacquer is in very good condition. Please see the pictures. One picture I did not share is the one showing a very small chip on the outer rim because I ran out of room. There i a very small and light spider crack towards the top. The inside is worn as most of them are, but this one lightly in comparison.. See the last two piictures, we have shown pictures from every side of the outside. Please take this opportunity to own a very historical piece of old Japan.
Size: Diameter 13.2 x 13.4 inches, in cm 34 cm x 33 cm. Heigth 5.5 inches or 34 cm.
