This Japanese vintage lacquered wood box is very nicely carved with beautiful flowers in relief. It is real wood and a very nice piece as far as the small lacquered wood boxes go. It is handmade, all hand carved and hand lacquered in red and black. The general term for the boxese made like this is tsuishu. The carved details of the flowers are deep and well done with quality work. It is a little bit bigger than a kogo and would make a wonderful addition and decorative item for the collection. It is about 50 years old. It was a purchase from Japan and most of our items are. It is in execellent condition with no cracks or chips.
There is dust in the cracks of the lid. This can either be removed by a brush, or if you are really careful rinse with cold water then quickly and thorougly dry it which turns out just fine. However, some people prefer to leave the signs of age so we have left as is as this is what gives its 'feeling' of time.
