This Japanese Antique Edo Nirayama Jingasa Soldier's Cap Yoroi dates to the 19th century Edo period. Japanese Nirayama Jingasa or soldier's cap was part of yoroi armour sword of samurai bush wear, according to my seller in Japan. It is a Japanese black lacquer ‘Nirayama Jingasa’ or a soldier's cap. Nirayama Jingasa is a soldier's cap of a flat conic type on which twist paper is knit and the black lacquer was painted. The ō-yoroi 大鎧 is a prominent example of early Japanese armor worn by the samurai class. The boxy shape hindered the samurai from using the sword with the free, fluid motion vital in hand-to-hand combat, hence the use of yari. It is jingasa that the samurai of the gunnery training used. In history, Egawa Tarozaemon was the local magistrate of Nirayama of Izu Province, of 1801 to 1855 and designated Nirayama Jingasa. It is in Good antique condition with age appropriate wear and flaws., please see the pictures. It has no bad odors and we do not smoke around our merchandise and are very careful in handling it. please let us know if you have any questions. It is a purchase from a well- known and honest, quality antique dealer.
