This Chinese vintage engraved silver mixed metal and porcelain small box of flowers is relatively new, about 20 years old. I do not really know or much about Chinese wares. There is so much to learn! I love how the metal which looks like a tin is engraved, it is a pretty color silver and lightweight. These make wonderful gift and collection boxes. I am not sure if these are used ceremonially like the tea ceremony kogo are or not, something to find out. I think the dealer from Japan said it was. The top is covered in a blue based porcelain, with delicate red lotus flower and its green leaves. These are made from chards, or pieces of broken porcelain, and a friend even shared with me that special chards are even displayed in museums. It is in excellent condition with no dings cracks or chips and is has a little patina.

the Lotus flower
Primarily a symbol of purity, the lotus is revered in Japan for its ability to rise from the dirty muddy waters to bloom into a beautiful flower. Most commonly associated with the Buddhist achievement of enlightenment, it has been used as a very popular symbol of living your life to the fullest.
