This Chinese vintage blue and white decorative teapot is made in the form of an unusual looking fish, indeed! It was a purchase from a lady in Vancouver, Washington; who said it belong to her late great aunt. Most likely made for export, and probably dating to the 1960's through 1970's. It is handmade perhaps using a mold, it is clearly hand painted in underglaze blue with lovely different decorations all around, with curly waves coming up from the bottom. It is quite the funny looking fish with quite the expression, almost reminds me of a blowfish or something from a cartoon, but probably represents a carp, or maybe a cartoon carp- with its unusual expression, form and shapes all over. The handle is metal wrapped in stripped bamboo. It is in excellent vintage condition with no cracks or chips. It is marked on the bottom, Hand Painted Decoration, Made in China. I forgot we had it and was a pleasant surprise when I unpacked it. I am unsure about it's usability for tea, although it does hold water well. Since it is a newer piece, I suspect the paint and such is safe. It does have a stopper for the spout.
