This Japanese Vintage Lacquered Wood Pair of Okimono Statues of a Pair of Kamo 鴨 or Ducks are absolutely gorgeous, our pictures do not do them justice. The blacks, browns with a hint of reds can be seen in layers when turned in this beautiful pair of lacquered wood ornament ducks. The red and brown representing the feathers are painted under the lacquer- gorgeous work and very skilled artisan lacquerware work of extraordinary artistry. We are not sure what type of lacquer they are, we did not get that information- although much more refined they look a bit like Hida Shunkei Lacquer, and the lacquer work seems a bit too thick to be urushi. They date to the mid showa 1950-1960's. They are an estate sale item from Massachusetts of a family who brought them back from Japan. They have been well cared for, a perfect gift for the duck or bird lover. They are absolutely gorgeous with no damage and look like they have many many layers of lacquer on them. They are a good okimono size big enough to enjoy, but not too large. A wonderful gift for the collector of ducks.
