This vintage "Crown Trifari" black enamelled and sIlver tone brooch is decorated with an open chrysanthemum and an elegant modernist arabesque border, reminding us very much of Japan. The designs are silver tone and the background is done in black enamel. "Crown" Trifari is one of the many lines of the Trifari jewelry company. They have some really interesting and nice pieces. The Crown line of Trifari was made between the 1940's and 1960's. This brooch is in excellent condition with no damage, there is some expected surface wear of age but the enlarged pixel picture exaggerates it, it is not visible to the naked eye (And most of it is micro dust as I did not clean it off either). The pin and clasp works great. This piece is marked with the Crown Trifari mark on the back. Trifari is still a very popular line to this day. Please see our other Trifari pieces- mostly flowers and insects- that reminds us of Japan.

The Trifari Jewelry Company
The Trifari Jewelry Company founder Gustavo Trifari was born in Naples, Italy in 1883. In 1904, he moved to the US fashion capital of New York, and went to work for his uncle making costume jewelry. In 1910 he founded a new company called “Trifari and Trifari”. In 2000, it was sold to Liz Claiborne. In between, the Trifari Jewelry Company is steeped rich in history and became one of the most well-known costume jewelry companies of all times. Over the years, Gustavo Trifari worked with many famous designers, including coming up with different lines; some of my favorites which include “Trifari L’Orient”. “Trifari Ming”, and “Trifari Jelly Belly”. In the 1930s he began working with famous designer Alfred Philippe, who continued to make designs and lines for Trifari for many decades. Trifari jewelry is also one of the costume jewelry lines highest in demand, and therefore price. My favorites are also the figural pieces. All of these designs and lines remind me of Japan, some for more obvious reasons than others. Trifari and their designers had an influence strong in Asian design. See more on the internet at many sites written and available about Trifari.
