This adorable and beautiful Kyoto Ware pottery kogo lidded ornament box of an Inu Puppy is just about 20 years old. I suppose it could be the mate to the other puppy kogo we currently have. A kogo is a box most often used for placing incense in at the tea ceremony. The traditional method is to hand roll the incense balls and place them in the kogo. Kogo come made in many mediums and art forms and also make excellent decorative and collector items for the home and for placing small things in. The design of this one would make a lovely accessory to just about anywhere for the dog lover, a younger person, or the young at heart. It is hand molded, painted and glazed with a lovely background cream color. She has a sweet female face, and young modern decorations of pink and blue flowers green grass, a little gold nose and a curled up tail. A red collar with a box is around her neck. She is in pristine condition with no cracks or chips. She is not signed and we do not know the artist, a was a purchase from Japan. We alo have a bog puppy kogo, they would even look cute together!

Kiyomizu-yaki (京都 Kyoto Ware)
In the 17th century in Kyoto then Japan's cultural capital, kilns produced lead-glazed pottery like the pottery of southern China.
