A beautiful pair of Victorian French Blue Paste Earrings, 18 k gold. Circa 1860s.
The eye catching french blue paste is an oval faceted shape, set in a bezel claw setting with a closed back.
This closed back styling was designed to allow the gold behind the stone to reflect light back through the stone. At a time when candle light was the only form of illumination, this gave a delicate glow to jewelry.
The earrings are handcrafted and in excellent condition.
The size of the oval stone is 5/16 inch (8 mm) x 1/4 inch (6 mm). The full drop of the earrings is 5/8 inch (16 mm)
The gold is 18 k (acid tested), with makers marks GG.
The weight of the earrings is 2.2 grams.
