A stunning 14 k Green Gold, Art Nouveau ring with an oval shaped Smoky Quartz, circa 1900.
The 14 k Green gold is hallmarked with 585. A gold assay office mark for Vienna and a maker's mark are also present.
In the late 19th century, the Art Nouveau movement had a great effect on jewelry design. The natural world influenced the styling and symbols were generously incorporated. In this lovely ring there are four stylized orchid flowers around the conical collar of the gemstone setting.
In Austria and Germany the art nouveau movement was known as Jugendstil and groups of artists developed their own style influenced by nature. This is a beautiful example of the high level of skill held by these artisan jewelers.
The smoky quartz is approximately 9 mm x 7 mm estimated in its setting.
The ring is 14 k green gold which adds to the unique look, with two small, pink or rose gold, balls at each shoulder. The color balances really well with the natural brown of the smoky quartz.
The conical collar also has a textured surface like tree bark.
The ring size is: 7.5 (US, Canada); P (Australia, NZ, Ireland, UK); 56 1/2 (France); 17 3/4 (Germany, Belgium, Scandinavia); 16 (Italy); 15 (Japan, China, India); 16 1/2 (Switzerland).
