19th Century Apothecary Show Globe
Size: 36” with chains (body of the globe is 23” without chains)
This style of apothecary globe was patented 1890. This large, ornate, hanging, apothecary show globe has replacement chains. It has a thick glass body with no visible chips to the rim, perhaps a few flea bites (see photos). The glass body has a volume of 3-1/2 gallons. The gilt is in excellent condition. The apothecary globe is currently electrified as a pendant lamp with a single candelabra bulb. The pendant light can easily be removed, if so desired.
Until the very early 20th Century, apothecary show globes like this one were used as advertisements for pharmacies.
