Taken from The Arthur Conan Doyle Encyclopedia: The Mershon Co. was an American book publishing company created by William Mershon. It published books of several bankrupt companies such as Cassell & Co., Ltd. or The Merriam Co. in the mid to late 1890's. From 1899, it published new titles under its own imprint, until 1905 when the name was changed to the Stitt Publishing Company. This will help in dating this copy as no date is found inside.
