Antique bug set with gemstones. This sweet little fly pendant is very fancy! A pair of cabochon rubies form the eyes, a 2.3 mm rose cut diamond for the thorax, a 3.8 mm opal for the abdomen, and five seed pearls each to the pair of wings. Two pairs of gold legs are crafted from wire and can be seen to the top and bottom of the fly's body.
This piece originally came to us as a Victorian stick pin and we've sympathetically converted it and added a modern gold chain to make it a sweet, ready to wear piece. Circa 1890s bug, modern conversion and gold chain.
Not hallmarked, professionally tested as 15 carat gold. The bail and chain are 9 carat gold.
Measures approx 1.3 cm / 0.51 inches tall not including bail by 1.6 cm / 0.63 inches wingspan.
Weighs 1.33 grams plus the weight of the chain.
