Lovely Victorian rose gold (registration marked) bell shaped locket. The locket is made of a base metal which has been clad/plated with rose gold. The gold is of 7-9 karat from test gently. Both sides of the locket have been stamped with early English registration(triangle marks).
I spent some time on researching the marks and I think I've pinned it down to 1873. It is quite lovely even though there are small areas of wear to the edges as the gold has started to wear away. As you look at the locket you can appreciate the hand engraving it took to make the designs front and back. There is a central bouquet of flowers on each side with one side having a tiny vacant cartouche. The borders have been varied in engraving which took some time in execution and planning. The hinge is strong and the locket closes securely. Incredibly the inner frames are still intact.
Really a unique and lovely piece of Victorian jewelry. Please note the neck chain is not included with this locket, but I have ones on offer in my shop.
