This Julius Hammesfahr desk set was made around the turn of the century, during the height of the Art Nouveau period, in Solingen, Germany. It consists of a pair of scissors and a letter opener, which fit together into a beautifully embossed brass scabbard. The design is stunning. Solingen has long been known for excellence in cutlery, using Solingen steel.
The scissors measure 10 3/8 inches long and 2 1/8 inches wide at their beautiful handles. There is some discoloration to the steel, but are perfectly functional and quite sharp. They are marked “Germany” on one side and “Julius Hammesfahr Solingen” on the other.
The letter opener measures 10 inches long and is 5/8 inch wide. It is marked “Germany” on one soon the brass handle. The steel is not perfectly straight, although it does not effect it’s fit in the scabbard.
The scabbard is solid brass and is 7 inches long. It is unmarked.
This is a beautiful set that will enhance your desk with stunning and elegant Art Nouveau style.
