This sterling silver vesta was made in Birmingham, England in 1920, as shown by the hallmarks on the interior. I believe the maker is Ward Brothers, who were established in 1888. The matchsafe opens on a spring loaded hinge which works perfectly. It appears that the interior hallmark was used to strike the matches, as shown on it's uncleaned surface. The vesta measures 2 3/8" by 1 5/8" and shows light surface scratching from use. It is a wonderful piece of tobacciana history!
