This charming large platter hat from the early 1950s is in glorious condition ~ clean, well cared for, properly stored and ready to wear. Made of straw or faux straw done in a tightly woven, smooth, sophisticated weave. Smothered with pink daisies, each with a fluffy pompom center. Here and there a daisy will have a diamond cut, metallic toned rhinestone that glitters with exactly the right amount of spark. At the top, sewn off center, is a pink fabric rosebud, just opening into full bloom. Attached to its stem with leaves, it is a pretty complement to the daisies. It is interesting that roses symbolize not only love and romance, but also confidentiality. And as we know....."daisies do tell". An interesting combination in an enchanting, alluring hat.
Designed in simple fluid lines with only the merest suggestion of a crown, this hat flows over your head in the most provocative manner. The wide brim is wired and piped in grosgrain perfectly matched in color to the rest of the hat. Its interior cap secures the hat to your head. The cap is the only part of the hat that shows any wear and this is very mild and comes from age, storage and infrequent use. A few faint smudge marks on the cap's crown interior and some gentle wear along the pink grosgrain piping on the cap edge ~ that's the long and short of it. The structure of the cap is as strong and sturdy as it was the day the hat was made. I think having a hat pin holding the inner cap to your hair might help the cap do its job.
