A fine sample of schoolgirl art from the mid-19th century, c1830-1850. The composition is charming ~ a boy, a girl and a flower bedecked lamb. Outlined on paper in pencil and hand-tinted with watercolor paints. By all appearances, the period frame is original. Walnut, with a smooth, satiny patina. The picture has some minor surface foxing. The frame has a bit of corner chipping and a small crack at one corner, all proper age and normal use marks. Visual image 8 3/4" x 6 3/4"; framed approximately 13" x 10 1/2".
