This is a wonderful set of three majolica tiles that, put together make the figure of a man playing a flute. Tiles like this were often set on either side of a fireplace circa 1890 and usually didn't survive being taken out. This one has chips on two fingers that I have photographed and other minor imperfections. The background glaze is a neutral ivory color with a brownish red over it and each tile measures 6 inches by 6 inches so together they measure 18 inches tall by 6 inches wide and the outside of the frame that is newer measures 19 inches by 7 1/4 inches. There is no identifying mark on the back but I have seen this set of tiles attributed to Trent Tile Co., Trenton, NJ.
