Antique late 19th / early 20th century French sterling silver handled 4pc hors d'oeuvres serving set with engraved decoration and ornate Neoclassical style acanthus, laurel and reed Comprising of a flat server, a serving spoon, a knife and a fork. They come in their original fitted presentation/storage box. Overall in good condition. The silver handles have minor tarnishing, some faint dimples, tiny pinpoints and small dents. No larger dents, splits or repairs to note. The upper parts show surface scratches and a few deeper scuffs due to ordinary use and cleaning. There is a slight imperfection/waviness to the rim of the spoon bowl. The joints are tight and firm. No monograms.
Each handle is stamped with the French Minerva 1st standard hallmark for .950 silver. Silversmith marks 'HS' for Henri Soufflot, who worked between 1884 and 1910 at 89 rue de Turbigo in Paris. The upper parts appear to be silver plated metal.
The spoon is 6 9/16 inches (16,6 cm) long and 1 5/8 inches (4,2 cm) wide across the bowl.
The flat server is 7 inches (17,8 cm) long and 1 1/2 inches (3,8 cm) wide at its widest point.
The fork is 6 9/16 inches (16,6 cm) long and 1 5/16 inches (3,3 cm) wide at its widest point.
The knife is 7 1/8 inches (18,2 cm) long and 13/16 inch (2,1 cm) wide at its widest point.
Combined weight of the four pieces is 180 grams.
Total weight with box is 492 grams.
The box is structurally sound with good working hinges and clasp. There is some age related wear to the surface, including discoloration, rubbing, small dents, scratches and small areas of loss to the paper covering on the sides and along the edges. It measures 9 inches (22,8 cm) across, 6 3/8 inches (16,1 cm) back to front and is inches (4,4 cm) tall.
