This vintage Coppola e Toppo crystal beaded brooch is absolutely delicious! It's composed of tightly-wired crystal faceted beads in several shades of pink, blue and green, with tiny wired seed beads providing contrast and spacing. Construction: wired beads woven into a pierced domed backing, with a goldtone backing and trombone clasp. Excellent condition; there is a small amount of patina on the backing, consistent with age.
Coppola e Toppo jewelry is highly sought after. Made in Italy from the late 1940s into the 1970s by the brother-sister jewelry design team of Bruno Coppola and Lyda Toppo, who produced pieces for Dior, Balenciaga and Schiaparelli, as well as under their own name. This particular brooch is unsigned, but the construction is entirely consistent with signed pieces of Coppola e Toppo jewelry. There apparently is not a lot of information available on CeT marks, but according to 'Fashion Jewels Coppola e Toppo' by Deanna Farnetti Cera, some pieces that appeared in in a collection featured in 1949 French Vogue were not signed.
