This is a clear Lucite oval brooch, reverse beveled, and reverse-carved and painted, to give the illusion of an embedded delicate pink rose bouquet, complete with serrated green leaves. The brooch itself measures 2-1/4" x 1-5/8", and is 3/8" thick. The reverse beveling creates a reflection inside the pin, of the flowers and leaves, and makes the pin's "frame" look quite colorful, as a result (see pictures). The goldtone rollover clasp pin-back has been secured to the back with tines bent from the pinback. Excellent condition - I see no chips or cracks. A lovely, feminine pin that would make a great gift for that special someone!
Reverse-carved Lucite brooches, mostly featuring flower motifs, were popular in the 1940s and 1950s. They were made professionally, as well as in home and school workshops (according to Jane Clarke's Jewel Chat, over on Morning Glory Antiques). This pin is a lovely example of the genre.
