Now here is a rare pair! This is a set of two belt buckles, done in gold tone metal (may be a mixture of brass and another metal) and brilliant cherry red glass stones. The largest of the pair is a rounded off square, being 1 and 3/4 in on all sides. The smaller is a rectangle, 1 and 1/2 in long, and 3/4 in wide.
The "big sister" has this simply yummy square stone, prong set, on the oblique, as the center attraction. The stone is set up on an arch, which consists of four half crescent shapes, formed end to end. All of this is then set in a circle, which is bordered on the curved portion of the square, with the corresponding opposite side of the half crescents. The creates open space between the the four sides.
On the reverse, it appears that the half crescents/arches are created by using circles that have been flattened out on the bottom. On two sides are two "ribbons" of the metal, which constitutes the portion where the belt/sash should be threaded. The stone has a closed back.
The "little sister" of the pair has a version of the same stunning glass stone, set on the horizontal. It is also prong set. On either side of the stone is a "folded over" piece of the metal, which is faceted on the top into quarters. On its reverse, its set of double "ribbons" are attached horizontally to the two "folded over" ends, for threading. This stone has a closed back.
These buckles are very 1940's in style, with a slight echo of the Deco. They are in terrific vintage condition and the stones simply glow!
