This is a very unusual little piece, being a combination of real pearlized shell and mixed metal, possibly gilt. The base is an inverted cone shape, which is incised with a pattern similar to a Greek key motif. This is not surprising as the piece emanates from Greece! Moving up the cone, there are incisions resembling feathers. Above that is the swirl of the shell, being open to one side.
Atop the shell is a portion of the swan's body, from the breast up. It shows the long swan neck and head, with the appropriate looking beak. Again, this metal is all incised to resemble feathers. Coming to you fresh from an estate, this charming piece is circa 1970's-1980. It is in very good vintage condition. This piece will certainly generate conversation at the dinner table, as it is passed around!
