Well, it's Carnival time...and just in time for the season is this great crown brooch! Done in silver tone metal, its rhinestones have the traditional colors of purple, gold, and green.
In a rounded crown shape, the pin features trefoil clusters, with a round, bezel set stone, in each of the requisite colors. Below them, in between each trefoil, is a single rhinestone. There a four of them, green, gold, purple, and then green again. The "band" of the crown is an arch of white rhinestones. Below the band of the crown, there is an open oval. The reverse of the brooch has a straight pin, with a rolled safety catch.
When facing the piece, on the right side, there is another single, purple rhinestone coming out from the crown's top. However, on the left, this has been broken off.
Here is the big bonus-we can date the favor because of its accompanying doubloon, from the Krewe of Bacchus, when William Shatner, of Star Trek fame, reigned. The doubloon is purple, with one side having the 1987 date, William Shatner's face, and the other the "god" Bacchus, in profile, drinking from his cup.
The doubloon is in wonderful vintage condition. While the crown has the above noted mar, it is still collectible because of its association as a favor. Indeed, when the crown is worn, it is not particularly noticeable. So become the Mardi Gras royalty you always wanted to be with this set!
