Antique Pair of Butterfly Sterling Hatpins

This an exquisite pair of Sterling Antique Hatpins, in the shape of butterflies, which are enameled in brilliant shades of blue and green. Each butterfly is hinged to the sleeve type of finding, which has an embellishment of small, round balls, at its base. Each shank is 9 inches long.

The butterflies are very realistic in execution. Each one is 1 inch across and 1/2 inch in length. Each wing brilliant blue, with dots of sterling. The body is a glowing green, with sterling stripes. The antennae were curled, as in life, and done in sterling. Each of the butterflies has the English sterling hallmarks, embossed on the back of the wings. They are visible with magnification, but still are so very tiny, they are very difficult to read. The best this writer can discern is the beginning H. This indicated the maker could have been in Sheffield, London, or Birmingham. However, there is no doubt they are antique.

This pair is an incredible example of the hatpin art. These are very special and rare, to find in a pair. This is an opportunity to add show pieces to your collection!
