This glorious pin has a terrific surprise! It is actually a Duette, meaning it can be worn in two different ways! Coro is famous for its animal/floral Duettes, but earlier than these figural pieces, came these late Deco designs. This square shape is 3 inches long and 1-1/2 inches wide. Set into pot metal, are glowing white rhinestones. The large chatons and emerald cut stones are prong shaped. The smaller stones are simply inset, into the metal. When the two pieces are released from the "frame" of the brooch, the setting of the stones becomes apparently fan shaped dress clips! Turning the brooch over, the hinged portion of the dress clips are evident. When the clips remain in the "frame", the whole piece has a horizontal straight pin, ending in a roll over safety clasp. In this fashion, the piece is worn as a whole. When the hinged pieces are lifted up, the clips pop out. When out of the "frame", each of the clips is 1-1/2 inches long and 1 inch wide.
These pieces occasionally had pat pending numbers, but not other Coro marks. This particular one does not display a number. These double duty pieces were very popular, as dress clips were utilized in several ways. They were not only attached to dresses, but to clutch bags, scarves, and even as hair ornaments. This wonderful piece is in excellent vintage condition. Double your pleasure, double your fun!
