This hat pin head has an intriguing shape of a hexagon. It is adorned with Etruscan style scrolling, around the top, while the side panels created by the hexagon are plain. For added interest, popping out of the top is a small, round, amethyst, set in a dog tooth bezel. The stone is faceted, with a table top cut. The 6 in pin shank attaches to the head with a sleeve finding. As is often found in Victorian hat pins, as this particular one is, the pin is 10k yellow gold. What in modern terms is considered "low" karat gold, is often found in jewelry of this epoch, as there was no standard then, as we now think of 14,18, and 22 karat gold. This hat pin is in great antique condition, espousing the favored Victorian combination of purple and gold coloration.
Take this one home with confidence that it is authentic and in excellent antique condition. It emanates from a decades long collection and will be a great addition to a new one.
This hat pin is from Charlotte's personal collection, which was developed over three decades. She has belonged to the American Hat Pin Society for decades, to continue to learn and associate with fellow collectors. It is time for some of these treasures to move on to new houses!
