A sublime rendering of Art Nouveau styling (1890-1910) in the form of this glorious hat pin! Set atop a 6 and 1/2 in 14kt yellow gold pin shank, is a swirl of gilded open work, designed as six petaled flowers. This gilded Ovid is 1 and 1/2 in in circumference and is attached to the pin shank by a sleeve and disc finding.
Coming up 1/2 in above the top of the Ovid, is a dog tooth bezel set Amethyst. It is a half round, which is highly faceted, with a table cut top. The combination of the colors purple and gold was a Victorian favorite. An Amethyst was viewed as a stone which produced peace and calmness in a person, while purple represented the future and dreams. Therefore this great hat pin could be said to be symbolic of the Victorians/Edwardian's deep interest in spiritualism. In lovely antique condition, let this one make you feel mellow!
Take this one home with confidence that it is authentic and in excellent antique condition. It emanates from a decades long collection and will be a great addition to a new one.
This hat pin is from Charlotte's personal collection, which was developed over three decades. She has belonged to the American Hat Pin Society for decades, to continue to learn and associate with fellow collectors. It is time for some of these treasures to move on to new houses!
