This beauty came from Spain, sometime between the 1940's and 1950's. It shows a "typical" souvenir scene, painted on paper, with a bull ring in the background, and a happy courting couple, in a carriage. The reverse of the fan is plain gold in hue.
When completely open, the fan measures 25 inches across. The guards are 13 1/2 inches long, wooden, painted gold, and are incised with a floral/bird pattern.
There are 14 sticks, each 13 inches long. Also painted gold, also incised, but in red and green.
The scene painted on the front of the fan, which is very detailed, is sprinkled with glitter that is still brilliant ,which considering its age, is quite remarkable. There are multiple figures, both human and animal, with the perspective of the arena in the background, and the couple in the foreground. This really speaks to the excellent vintage condition of the fan.
You will want this with you whether to keep the heat at bay or to flirt with, in the language of the fan!
