As with many of the semi-precious stones today, this stone has more than likely undergone some form of treatment to produce the beautiful shads of blue green in the stones.
Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline form of silica, composed of very fine inter growths of the minerals quartz and morganite. Chalcedony and Quartz are both silicon dioxide, but differ in crystal structure. Chalcedony has a waxy luster, and may be semi-transparent or translucent. It can assume a wide range of colors, but those most commonly seen are white to gray, grayish-blue or a shade of brown ranging from pale to nearly black. Chalcedony occurs in a wide range of varieties. Many semi-precious gemstones, including Agate, Aventurine, Carnelian, Moss Agate, Chrysophase and Onyx, to name a few, are in fact forms of Chalcedony.
