Antique large dancing ballerina automaton on wood box. It is attributed to Roullet & Descamps, an important French maker of automatons and clockwork toys between 1860 and 1900. The head has an impressed mark and Tete Jumeau 301. The ballerina turns and moves her leg up and down when the music is played. She is open mouthed with blue glass paperweight inset eyes, brush stroked and feathered brows, painted lashes, rose blushed cheeks and lips. This treasure is from a doll collectors estate. She is unrestored, and seems to be mostly original. Her wig and lace head band with flower could use a straightening!
Overall it is 28” high by 13 3/8” wide. Her original dress has a couple of tears and some stains. The music box is in working condition. It played for over one minute.
The composition legs and arm have surface damage as pictured.
