This is an antique gold cameo, as there are no markings i have done some research , the closest pieces resembling this one i find came from the early 19 century in Austria. The condition of the piece indicates that this must be the truth , there is a slight tear in the gold above the cameo head, you can see on the back that at one point in its history it was repaired , ( very very well i must say ) and also the cameo at one point must have broken and was re glued, All this does not deter from the amazing quality of the gold work which was first formed in to the floral leaf design using the reppouse method of shaping the gold from behind using forming tools and then it is engraved in a exquisite fashion, the quality of the cameo is also first class. The gold is acid tested as there are no marks and from the results i would say that it is somewhere between 14 and 18 carats which is also consistent with other pieces from that area and location, A Truly amazing piece and even though it is in a slightly rough condition the beauty and exquisite craftsmanship stands out almost 200 years after it was made.
