Presented here is a traditional Tunisian Silver and Gold Hamsa (hand of fatima). Throughout northern Africa, Turkey, and in other parts of the Middle East, Muslims and Jews wear the amulet , "Hand of Fatima" , as a jewellery and also for superstitious protection. Fatima was the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad who married Ali, the nephew of the Prophet. From their descendants Shi'a Muslims claim a direct line of authority over Muslims. Miracles were attributed to Fatima, such as when she prayed in the desert, it started raining The hamsa has been variously interpreted by scholars as a Jewish, Christian, or Islamic amulet, and as a pagan fertility symbol. Yet even as the magical form remains shrouded in mystery and scholars debate nearly every aspect of its emergence, it is recognised today as a kabbalistic amulet and as an important symbol in Jewish art. The piece presented here is hand manufactured in a Traditional Tunisian technique of Gold on Silver, that is that the base of the amulet is 10 k gold and the top where all the diamantes are set is silver, there are various hallmarks which i do not recognise and it is acid tested for 10 k Gold and for Silver.. There are 22 diamante chips of about .02 points each, total diamante weight close to one half of a carat. The Pendant is in very good condition.
