So very rare is this 21" Madame Alexander Composition Portrait Godey Lady Doll, circa 1938.
She is all original with the most gorgeous pink taffeta and lace dress! Her face has some craze lines as you can see in the pictures. The consignor said that she had the doll cleaned by a doll restorer ~ it looks to me like they applied a clear sealer over the composition to prevent further cracking. Please see pictures. She has full eyelashes with brown sleep eyes, blue painted eye shadow, nice rosy cheeks, exaggerated painted eyelashes, multi-stroke brown eyebrows. She has great cheek coloring. A few small spot of missing eyeliner on her left eye, only visible when eyes are closed. She is also wearing her original pearl earrings and her pearl necklace goes around the top neckline of her dress.
Some missing spots of compo missing on her lower legs, see picture. Other crazing on the body is fairly light. She still retains blushing on her knees and back of her elbows. Facial crazing has been stabilized, see pictures for detail, remember my pictures are magnified so the doll looks better in person! One deeper crack on back of head under hairline.
She is wearing her original pink taffeta fabric and lace dress. Her gathered purse matches her dress and her lovely bonnet is trimmed with Alexander roses ad long ribbons in the back. Original stockings and shoes.
Very early Madame Alexander Portrait doll and rarely seen. She was in the 1938 catalog.
No repaint on this lovely rare example ~ I believe her hair should have bangs in front, that's just a matter of playing with them to get them there. I had already taken my pictures when I noticed this! Please see all pictures for details.
