Presenting an Art Deco filigree locket / pendant / brooch / pin that features a central prong set sapphire glass stone on a applied filigree petal shaped decor. This is attached to a burnished gold tone metal locket. The locket opens to show two pictures with original clear covers and lock rings and a bonus of the original couple dressed in attire dating this to 1930 - 1940s. The locket is backed with a very ornate pierced metal filigree backing with ruffled edges and beading. And has a bale, and pin that closes securely with a safety clasp.
The locket measures 2" x 1.5" x .5". It is in excellent vintage condition with no blemishes, breaks or repairs and has developed a very nice patina that accentuates the detailed design of the piece. The locket opens and closes securely along with the interior picture lock rings. There are multiple numbers and symbols of unknown origin on the locket.
The style, materials and date of manufacture makes this piece most likely to originate in Austro -Hungarian or Czech areas. Just for fun I spent some time looking up the pat. # on the back of the piece. Not as easy as I would like since the second number is covered with welding material. The patent dates to 1870's for a machine that burnishes metal for small decorative objects such as watches or jewelry. So I can say for certain it is not older than 1870.
This is a lovely piece of Art Deco jewelry that was multi functional as well as beautiful and an excellent example of the style and construction of the time.
