Presenting an antique Victorian pendant with Agate Cameo set in Rolled Rose Gold with a reversible 2 design book chain necklace in a lariat style circa 1880's.
These beautifully detailed pieces features a 11mm x 8mm x 5mm cameo of carved agate prong set in rolled rose gold and framed in yellow gold with applied flowers, leaves and shell in granulated yellow and rose gold. This is attached to a rolled rose gold book chain necklace. The very detailed pendant measures 1.5"x .1" x .625" and features a hidden box clasp. The book chain link necklace have deeply etched patterns on both sides of the chain. The necklaces is in the lariat style with a double fringe hanging 1.5" below the pendant. The chain measures 22“ x .5“ x .125" . The necklace weighs 27 grams.
The piece is in excellent antique condition without breaks, chips or repairs. There are no visible hallmarks. JSP testing solution was used to verify the precious metals which ranged from 9K to 12K Gold. These are rolled Gold pieces and will vary in metal content according to the thickness of the rolled layers. A Presidium gem tester was used to verify the gemstones. Acetone was used to verify colorfastness of the gemstones.
Rolled Gold is made by applying a layer of gold alloy to a base metal. This sandwich is then drawn to the thickness needed for the piece of jewelry. The layer of gold used in rolled gold is thicker than that used in gold filled jewelry. Rolled gold was very popular in the 1880s.
